Expanding your professional network

ERA can help you to expand your professional network. We offer researchers numerous opportunities to network and showcase their work through:

  • Conferences – we regularly run large scale conferences and summits on different subjects, often providing additional opportunities for researchers to showcase their work through posters and presentations.

  • Business Events – each month we run events for businesses across the Midlands through our Midlands Green Innovation Network. These provide the opportunity to meet people from the business community and are free for researchers to attend.

  • Net-Zero Heroes – this monthly webinar provides the opportunity for researchers to present their research alongside industrial and other academic specialists.

Professional development

We offer training programmes for researchers through our PhD development programme and also through our C-DICE (postdoctoral development) activities.

PhD development: The ERA Skills Academy

ERA is working to meet the demands of the changing energy landscape by increasing the supply of highly-trained, skilled postgraduates across the spectrum of energy research. Utilising the current breadth of research in the region with over 500 academics and 1000 energy researchers, we want to develop the best energy researchers and create a talent pipeline to secure the UK’s position as a leader in energy research and innovation.

The ERA Skills Academy includes:

  • Access to dynamic network of researchers tackling huge societal challenges

  • Mentoring and support from leading academics

  • Access to first class research facilities and equipment across the ERA partnership

  • Free membership of the Chartered Energy Institute

  • Access to training provided by a number of ERA partners

  • Specially tailored events, workshops, and conferences

Postdoctoral development: C-DICE

The Centre for Postdoctoral Development in Infrastructure, Cities and Energy (C-DICE) provides a world-class postdoctoral development programme.

C-DICE is based around the Energy Research Accelerator (ERA) and UKCRIC partnership of universities, which leverages the collective capability of 18 leading research-intensive UK universities.

By participating in C-DICE, researchers will be a part of the largest postdoctoral network in the UK in the areas of Infrastructure, Cities and Energy. C-DICE will be able to provide access to a range of training and development opportunities designed around your needs, which you will be able to access via the C-DICE Portal to map a pathway through your research and career development.

C-DICE offers:

  • The Training Strand – providing training and development linked to partner facilities and expertise.

  • The Development Strand – providing fellowships, placements and secondments with partners.

  • The ‘Sandpit’ Programme – bringing together researchers in multi-disciplinary teams to generate novel solutions to the net-zero challenge.

  • The Impact Strand – delivering knowledge exchange events to maximise and disseminate the outcomes
