Brief Description

A TSI scanning mobility particle sizer (SMPS) is comprised by 3080 electrostatic classifier, a 3081 Differential Mobility Analyser (DMA) and a model 3775 Condensation Particle Counter (CPC).

Detailed Description

The SMPS measures the size and number distribution of the particles in the sampling points. It is based on the motion of a charged particle in an electric field. The particles enter in the electrostatic classifier, where they are neutralised through a small radioactive source. Then, the particles are categorised in accordance with their mobility in DMA units, resulting in a narrow particles range of mobility, successfully existing the output slit. The mono-disperse distribution then passes to a CPC unit which can determine the number of particles for the specific sizes.
