Join us at Loughborough University Graduate House for an interactive, hands-on workshop introducing you to Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and biomass combustion modelling using ANSYS Fluent.

CFD is a powerful engineering tool used to understand and predict how fluids, heat and combustion behave, helping researchers and engineers design, test and optimise systems without relying solely on physical experiments. ANSYS Fluent is a leading simulation platform used across engineering, energy and environmental research to tackle complex real-world problems.

In this full-day workshop, you will go beyond theory and run your own CFD simulation in a practical, interactive and collaborative setting. You will learn the fundamentals of CFD modelling, explore how combustion can be simulated, and see how these techniques can be applied to current low-carbon energy challenges, including research into hydrogen production from waste.

Whether you are completely new to CFD or already have some experience with ANSYS Fluent, this event offers an opportunity to build practical simulation skills, explore applications of CFD in net zero research and work on a real modelling challenge.

Attendees can expect a dynamic programme including:

  • An expert insight into ANSYS and its applications in engineering and energy research
  • An overview of research involving hydrogen production from waste using ANSYS Fluent
  • Practical guidance on the key stages of CFD modelling, including geometry, meshing, solver setup, solution and results
  • A hands-on group workshop, where participants will work in teams of five to develop their own simulation using ANSYS Fluent
  • Opportunities to ask questions, share experiences and reflect on the skills and knowledge gained during the day
  • Networking with fellow researchers and participants over refreshments and lunch

Participants will receive a £5 voucher upon successful completion of the event.

This event is open to doctoral and postdoctoral researchers from ERA partners

Places are limited to 40, and they will be on a first come first served basis, so early registration is encouraged. Come along to learn, model, collaborate and explore the potential of CFD for energy and sustainability research.
