SUMMARY:CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) for All Levels: Hands-On Biomass Combustion Modelling with ANSYS Fluent
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Loughborough University for an interactive\, hands-on workshop introducing you to Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and biomass combustion modelling using ANSYS Fluent. \nCFD is a powerful engineering tool used to understand and predict how fluids\, heat and combustion behave\, helping researchers and engineers design\, test and optimise systems without relying solely on physical experiments. ANSYS Fluent is a leading simulation platform used across engineering\, energy and environmental research to tackle complex real-world problems. \nIn this full-day workshop\, you will go beyond theory and run your own CFD simulation in a practical\, interactive and collaborative setting. You will learn the fundamentals of CFD modelling\, explore how combustion can be simulated\, and see how these techniques can be applied to current low-carbon energy challenges\, including research into hydrogen production from waste. \nWhether you are completely new to CFD or already have some experience with ANSYS Fluent\, this event offers an opportunity to build practical simulation skills\, explore applications of CFD in net zero research and work on a real modelling challenge. \nAttendees can expect a dynamic programme including: \n\nAn expert insight into ANSYS and its applications in engineering and energy research\nAn overview of research involving hydrogen production from waste using ANSYS Fluent\nPractical guidance on the key stages of CFD modelling\, including geometry\, meshing\, solver setup\, solution and results\nA hands-on group workshop\, where participants will work in teams of five to develop their own simulation using ANSYS Fluent\nOpportunities to ask questions\, share experiences and reflect on the skills and knowledge gained during the day\nNetworking with fellow researchers and participants over refreshments and lunch\n\nParticipants will receive a £5 voucher upon successful completion of the event. \nThis event is open to doctoral and postdoctoral researchers from ERA partners \nPlaces are limited to 40\, and they will be on a first come first served basis\, so early registration is encouraged. Come along to learn\, model\, collaborate and explore the potential of CFD for energy and sustainability research. \nBooking Link: Reserve your spot by clicking Apply Here.

SUMMARY:Online Writing Retreat series for Postdoctoral Researchers and PhD Students (December 2026)
DESCRIPTION:Join C-DICE and Energy Research Accelerator (ERA) in a quiet\, structured space for postdoctoral researchers and PhD students to focus on your writing. This series of four writing retreats are designed to give you protected time to work on your own projects\, benefitting from peer presence to support focus and momentum. \nThe remaining session will be on: \n\nMonday 7 December\, 13.00 – 15.00\n\nYou are welcome to work on any form of academic writing\, including journal articles\, thesis chapters\, grant applications\, reports\, or other research outputs. If you have been meaning to make progress on something but haven’t had the space\, this is a chance to step back and write. \nWhy attend \nMany researchers find it difficult to protect time for writing during busy working weeks. This retreat provides: \n\nDedicated writing time – 100 minutes (plus optional break half way through)\nA clear structure to support focus\, including brief welcome\, informal goal setting and brief progress reflection\nA shared space with other researchers working quietly alongside you\n\nWho is this for \nThis session is open to: \n\nPhD students at any stage\nPostdoctoral researchers\n\nYou do not need to have a finished draft. The retreat is suitable whether you are starting\, revising\, or trying to move a stalled piece of writing forward. \nAccess and joining \nThe event will take place online via MS Teams. Registered participants will receive joining details in advance. You will be expected to bring a writing project to work on.
