DESCRIPTION:Are you interested in understanding the potential carbon emissions impact of your research and how to demonstrate its wider environmental value? \nJoin our two-day Carbon Impact Assessment Workshop\, designed to introduce researchers to the principles of avoided carbon emissions assessment and provide practical experience applying a recognised assessment framework to real-world research projects. \nWhy attend? \nAs funders\, institutions and stakeholders increasingly focus on environmental impact\, understanding how research can contribute to carbon reduction has never been more important. DESCRIPTION:Join C-DICE and Energy Research Accelerator (ERA) in a quiet\, structured space for postdoctoral researchers and PhD students to focus on your writing. This series of four writing retreats are designed to give you protected time to work on your own projects\, benefitting from peer presence to support focus and momentum. \nYou can register for as many of the remaining sessions as you like. \n\nMonday 9 November\, 13.00 – 15.00\nMonday 7 December\, 13.00 – 15.00\n\nYou are welcome to work on any form of academic writing\, including journal articles\, thesis chapters\, grant applications\, reports\, or other research outputs. If you have been meaning to make progress on something but haven’t had the space\, this is a chance to step back and write. \nWhy attend \nMany researchers find it difficult to protect time for writing during busy working weeks. This retreat provides: \n\nDedicated writing time – 100 minutes (plus optional break half way through)\nA clear structure to support focus\, including brief welcome\, informal goal setting and brief progress reflection\nA shared space with other researchers working quietly alongside you\n\nWho is this for \nThis session is open to: \n\nPhD students at any stage\nPostdoctoral researchers\n\nYou do not need to have a finished draft. What does it really take to reach net zero? \nJoin Energy Research Accelerator for this in-person serious game workshop. Step into the shoes of key players in a national-scale decarbonisation effort\, with this new business game from Heuristic. Decarb-a-nation© is an innovative\, challenging\, yet fun workshop day where participants interact with the complex journey to net zero in an immersive\, accessible way. Through the power of heuristic gameplay and discussions facilitated by energy industry experts with over 80 years of combined experience\, participants run realistic decarbonisation scenarios in a safe and relaxed environment\, using real data that has direct parallels in the real world. \nHow it works: You will work as part of a team taking on the perspectives of Households\, Industry\, Power Utilities\, Local Authorities\, or National Government. SUMMARY:Energy Resilience for Agricultural Communities 2026: Accelerating the UK Agricultural Energy Transition through Research\, Collaboration and Action
DESCRIPTION:The UK agricultural sector faces growing pressure to transition to Net Zero while maintaining productivity\, resilience and economic viability. But what is stopping progress\, and what could help accelerate change? \nThis interactive workshop brings together farmers\, agricultural and rural organisations\, agro-processors\, energy and technology specialists\, policymakers\, investors and researchers to explore practical solutions to the UK agricultural energy transition. \nParticipants will share challenges\, hear cross-sector perspectives and explore research evidence\, before using the Integrated Agricultural Energy Transition Framework (IAETF) to co-design priorities for action. The IAETF is a six-step framework for developing agricultural energy transition plans that integrate local community needs\, agricultural and industrial drivers\, enabling conditions\, technical solutions\, implementation and opportunities for scaling and replication. \nThe day will generate practical\, policy\, investment and research priorities\, with findings contributing to a UK Agricultural Energy Transition Action Plan / Policy Brief. \nWhy attend? \n\nShare real-world challenges and experiences.\nDiscover practical opportunities and potential solutions.\nConnect with stakeholders across agriculture\, energy\, policy and finance.\nLearn about the IAETF and how its six-step approach can be applied to agricultural energy transition planning.\nHelp shape priorities for future action\, collaboration and research.\n\nWho should attend?\nFarmers and land managers; agro-processors and food businesses; agricultural and rural organisations; energy and technology professionals; policymakers and local authorities; environmental organisations; funders and investors; and PhD and postdoctoral researchers. \nPlaces are limited to approximately 40 participants.
