DESCRIPTION:Join C-DICE and Energy Research Accelerator (ERA) in a quiet\, structured space for postdoctoral researchers and PhD students to focus on your writing. This series of four writing retreats are designed to give you protected time to work on your own projects\, benefitting from peer presence to support focus and momentum. \nYou can register for as many of the remaining sessions as you like. \n\nMonday 12 October\, 13.30 – 15.30\nMonday 9 November\, 13.00 – 15.00\nMonday 7 December\, 13.00 – 15.00\n\nYou are welcome to work on any form of academic writing\, including journal articles\, thesis chapters\, grant applications\, reports\, or other research outputs. If you have been meaning to make progress on something but haven’t had the space\, this is a chance to step back and write. \nWhy attend \nMany researchers find it difficult to protect time for writing during busy working weeks. This retreat provides: \n\nDedicated writing time – 100 minutes (plus optional break half way through)\nA clear structure to support focus\, including brief welcome\, informal goal setting and brief progress reflection\nA shared space with other researchers working quietly alongside you\n\nWho is this for \nThis session is open to: \n\nPhD students at any stage\nPostdoctoral researchers\n\nYou do not need to have a finished draft. The retreat is suitable whether you are starting\, revising\, or trying to move a stalled piece of writing forward. \nAccess and joining \nThe event will take place online via MS Teams. Registered participants will receive joining details in advance. You will be expected to bring a writing project to work on.

SUMMARY:Discover and Assess the Carbon Impact of Your Research: Carbon Impact Assessment 2-day workshop
DESCRIPTION:Are you interested in understanding the potential carbon emissions impact of your research and how to demonstrate its wider environmental value? \nJoin our two-day Carbon Impact Assessment Workshop\, designed to introduce researchers to the principles of avoided carbon emissions assessment and provide practical experience applying a recognised assessment framework to real-world research projects. \nWhy attend? \nAs funders\, institutions and stakeholders increasingly focus on environmental impact\, understanding how research can contribute to carbon reduction has never been more important. This workshop series will help you develop the knowledge\, skills and confidence to assess the potential carbon impact of your research and communicate its value more effectively. \nA practical and collaborative learning experience designed to help you translate carbon impact assessment theory into meaningful action\, this workshop is delivered by Dr Bryony Bowman from the University of Birmingham.  \nThe workshop provides a unique opportunity to learn from an experienced facilitator who developed the carbon impact assessment framework and has supported researchers to apply carbon assessments across a wide range of research areas. \nDay 1: Carbon Impact Assessment Fundamentals \nGain a foundation in avoided carbon impact assessments and explore how they can support both current and future research activities. \nBy the end of the session\, you will be able to: \n\nExplain why assessing the carbon impact of research matters\nExplore the scope and purpose of avoided carbon emissions assessments\nDescribe key terminology and concepts\nDescribe the framework for potentially avoided carbon emissions through research\nDiscuss how impact assessments can add value to research projects and funding applications\n\nDay 2: Interactive Carbon Impact Assessment Workshop \nPut theory into practice through an engaging and interactive workshop experience. \nBuilding on the principles introduced on Day 1\, you will: \n\nApply the carbon impact assessment framework to real case studies\nWork through practical examples with expert guidance\nExplore approaches for assessing avoided carbon emissions within research\nApply the framework to your own research projects\nDevelop confidence in identifying and evidencing potential carbon impacts\n\nThis hands-on workshop offers a valuable opportunity to translate learning into practical application and begin assessing the environmental contribution of your own research. \nPlease note: Attendance at Day 1 is a prerequisite for participation in Day 2. \nWho should attend? \nThis workshop is open to anyone engaged in research and innovation\, including researchers\, research support professionals\, and industry professionals\, who are interested in understanding and evidencing the environmental impact of research and innovation activities.\nPlease note\, to attend both days\, participants should have a project that is underway or close to completion and is at a stage where its carbon impact can be meaningfully quantified and assessed. \nRegister now \nTake the first step towards understanding and demonstrating the carbon impact of your research. Join us to learn how robust carbon impact assessment can help showcase the environmental value and real-world benefits of your work. \n<online booking form>
